We are thrilled to announce that Paris House has been named among the Top 30 elite employers in The Caterer Magazine’s Best Places to Work in Hospitality 2024 awards once again.
Recently voted in the Top 100 of the UK’s best restaurants by Harden’s, Paris House is a fine dining restaurant that blends modern culinary techniques with the finest seasonal produce, in a warm and friendly environment.
Phil & his wife Claire took ownership of Paris House in 2014 and have built a thriving business. “In the last ten years, we’ve refurbished the whole restaurant, grown a fabulous kitchen garden, built a strong and happy team, made huge shifts to support work life balance in a difficult industry and made strong and lasting relationships with our customers.” says Phil.
We put our success with staff down to a massively improved work/life balance that is unusual in this industry. “Our focus on improving work/life balance has been absolute,” says Phil, “we now close the restaurant three days a week, allowing the team two days off and a day for training, development & preparation. We have built a real family environment where the team genuinely cares about one another and helps each other out. The hospitality industry is notoriously tough, often with very long hours, so we do all that we can to make things a little easier. Since Covid, we’ve seen a mass exodus from the industry and increased pressures from rocketing cost increases. I’m absolutely thrilled that our efforts have been recognised and that our staff think this is a great place to work.”
The Caterer is the leading multimedia brand for the UK hospitality industry. Since 1878, it’s been helping operators build better businesses and better careers. It is the only hospitality media brand with a pan-industry focus, with extensive coverage of hotels, restaurants, foodservice, pubs and bars. Their Best Places to Work in Hospitality 2024 awards are based on employees’ views on what makes a great place to work and how the company performs against those characteristics.
Paris House currently employs a team of 20 and is located in elegant surroundings, steeped in history. It was built in 1878 in a timbered mock-Renaissance style in Paris. The 9th Duke of Bedford then bought the house and shipped it piece-by-piece to the UK where he reconstructed it in Woburn Park. It has enjoyed a vividly colourful history on the estate before becoming a restaurant in 1983.
Fanning and team have preserved the building’s colourful heritage, whilst introducing a relaxed, stylish ambience, introducing varied menus carefully combining the finest seasonal produce with modern culinary techniques.
