OFFICIAL: PARIS HOUSE IS TOP PLACE TO WORK
Award-winning chef & owner of local award winning fine dining restaurant, Phil Fanning, has announced that Paris House has been named among the Top 30 elite employers in The Caterer Magazine’s Best Places to Work in Hospitality 2019 awards.
Recently voted in the Top 100 of the UK’s best restaurants by Harden’s, Paris House is a fine dining restaurant that blends modern culinary techniques with the finest seasonal produce, in a warm and friendly environment.
Phil Fanning joined Paris House in 2010 following a meteoric rise through the ranks. Starting his career as a finalist on the BBC’s Junior Masterchef as a young teenager in 1997, Phil went on to work at Danesfield House, The Compleat Angler and The Vanilla Pod.
Just three years after joining L’Ortolan restaurant as a junior chef de partie in 2007, he was appointed Head Chef at Paris House. Within a year and at the age of 29, Fanning had won a Michelin star, three AA rosettes and an Acorn Award, which recognises future stars of the hospitality industry under 30.
Phil & his wife Claire took ownership of Paris House in 2014 and have built a thriving business. “In five years, we’ve refurbished the whole restaurant, grown a fabulous kitchen garden, built a strong and happy team and made some strong and lasting relationships with our customers.” says Phil.
Fanning puts their success with staff down to a massively improved work/life balance that is unusual in this industry. “Our focus on improving work/life balance has been absolute,” he says, “we now close the restaurant three days a week, allowing the team two days off and a day for training, development & preparation. We have built a real family environment where members genuinely care about one another and help each other out. The catering industry is notoriously tough, often with very long hours, so we do all that we can to make things a little easier. I’m absolutely thrilled that our efforts have been recognised and that staff think this is a great place to work. Of all the results we’ve seen, the fact that 92% of staff are proud to work at Paris House makes me very happy.”
