Winemaker's Dinner with Saint Clair - 17th Oct

We are delighted to invite you to spend the evening at Paris House with Kyle Thompson, Senior Winemaker from the award winning Saint Clair Family Estate.

Kyle will present an entire evening of Saint Clair wines perfectly paired with a bespoke menu from Phil Fanning. Along with Mark Innes from Hallgarten Wines, Kyle will show some of the best wines coming out of New Zealand. You’ll taste some of the most awarded Sauvignon Blancs in the world from one of the top 100 wineries in the world.

Executive Chef Phil Fanning will be on hand to introduce each dish and Kyle & Mark will provide unique insight into the wine pairings. They’ll talk about upcoming wine trends and you will have the opportunity to pick their brains and to purchase Saint Clair wines at discounted prices.

Saint Clair was established in 1994 by Neal and Judy Ibbotson, winegrowers and pioneers in Marlborough since 1978. They own 193 hectares of vineyard in Marlborough (South Island) and Hawkes Bay (North Island). Neal and Judy operate a unique grading system for all of their wines that has seen them receive consistent recognition of its winemaking success through numerous medals, awards and trophies, both internationally and domestically. They are pioneers of single vineyard sauvignon and pinot noir in Marlborough.

Kyle Thompson is Saint Clair’s Senior Winemaker. Having studied food science, Kyle began his working life in the dairy industry, involved in microbiology and sensory evaluation. Kyle has always been passionate about wine, but his interest in the wine industry began in earnest while living in London and working in France. After two vintages in Bordeaux, a vintage in Tuscany, and further winemaking study, Kyle returned to his homeland of New Zealand.

Having worked with a number of renowned Marlborough wineries, Kyle was excited by the opportunity to join Saint Clair at the beginning of 2006 – when the new state-of-the-art winery was being built.

Kyle says “winemaking is my dream job. I love having the opportunity to work with some of the most exciting grapes in the world, and a multitude of varieties. I am able to combine my knowledge of old world techniques, with the freedom, innovation and cutting-edge technology that winemaking in New Zealand gives me”.
